Top Melbourne reading spots
I’ve been living in Melbourne for almost a year now and during that time, have explored a number of beautiful and quiet reading spots that are worth a look if you’re a reader like me!
One of my favourite things to do on the weekend it pull up a towel in a park or find a quiet spot to work or read. Here are my top Melbourne picks:
The Botanical Gardens, CBD
Who could go past the beautiful Botanical Gardens? Bring your blanket or a towel and spread out under a big beautiful tree while overlooking the city. Better yet, pack a picnic and bring a bottle of your favourite wine. Be sure to get in early to secure the best spot on the weekend.
The Library of Victoria, CBD
The Library of Victoria is one of Melbourne’s most stunning pieces of architecture. Pull up a desk in The Redmond Barry Reading Room or La Trobe Reading Room you and enjoy the light, bright natural light beaming through the ceiling windows. You’ll feel inspired not only by the space itself but by being surrounded by other creatives.
Flagstaff Gardens, CBD
Flagstaff Gardens is a very special, serene sight in the middle of the busy Melbourne CBD. It’s the perfect spot for a little break if you’re running errands in and around the city. Due to it’s great location however, it’s often packed full of people. Bring your sunnies – the shadiest spots go first!
Fawkner Park, Toorak
Located across Toorak and South Yarra, Fawkner Park is the best spot for a quiet read (or nap) under the trees. Start the day by picking up a coffee by Cafe de la Place cafe and enjoying a little Vitamin D. If you enjoy a run around the court, tennis courts are available for hire too.
Como House, South Yarra
One of Melbourne’s hidden gems is the stunning Como House in South Yarra. Pop by for their latest exhibition showcase, have brunch at the The Stables of Como cafe and go for a wander around the gardens for the perfect Saturday out.
Albert Park Lake, Albert Park/South Melbourne
You’ll stop in your tracks at the sight of this beautiful body of water in the middle of the inner city suburbs. Enjoy an afternoon on the grass with the geese close by in the water.
Catani Gardens, St Kilda
Where Park life meets the coast. Enjoy the full sunshine available in the Catani Gardens along with the gorgeous smell of the sea breeze. Just be sure to bring your sunblock as you’ll be hard pressed to find a spot of shade in this spot!
